Just a quick little post. This week I've been all over the shop. I've been to my Godparents' 50th wedding anniversary, I've had my palm read for the first time (quite spooky), had builders and plumbers in and out of the place fixing this and that, and doing my best to get my work done on time. Somehow in all this mess of busyness though I managed to have look through a couple of the second hand stores a few towns up after a morning with the boy. I found this beautiful little handmade vintage 1960's skirt. You cannot see how vibrant it is from these pictures, but I've been searching for a skirt this bright shade of green for well over two years now. I had to sneakily rip it off a mannequin in the shop but it was well worth it. Fits like a dream too!
Whilst out looking about I also came across a pair of white go-go boots for the ridiculous price on $6.00! Why I didn't buy them, I'm not too sure. Perhaps I wasn't too pleased at the time about carrying them on the bus ride home and having nosies peeping in and seeing a pair of white PVC boots. After the weekend has passed I am hoping to go up there again and see if they are still there. If so I shall have to get them.
I also did my hair a little different today. I haven't done it in a while. Blonde haired Maureen Starkey was my inspiration. I'm hoping to wear it like this more often.
Here are just a few images of some girls from the 1960's who have decked themselves out in gold. You cannot deny however that Shirley Eaton as Miss Jill Masterson from "Goldfinger" (1964) is the goddess of gold. In the film she is painted completely in gold by orders of "the man with the Midas Touch", Auric Goldfinger, and dies from apparent skin suffocation. Soon an urban myth spread that Eaton had actually died during the filming as a result of this, but it has been proven that skin suffocation cannot occur. However that is not to say that death cannot occur from having one's body completely painted. Death can occur as a result of the body not being able to regulate its temperature. In spite of this, there is no doubt that the image of Eaton painted in gold is one from the 1960's that will be remembered always.
I myself would have loved to have dressed myself all in gold for the post but unfortunately I opened my wardrobe and realized that I do not own any gold items of clothing.
Yesterday morning in class we actually did yoga, believe it or not. And it was fantastic.
I had done yoga before in groups years ago when I was back in school but I am prone to giggling and thus I could not take it seriously. That is not to say though that one or too giggles didn't slip out yesterday. The instructor taught us a variety of breathing techniques and strategies that were effective against stress. I have never taken to using breathing techniques when stressed as they never work for me, so I was quite reluctant. But I was honestly amazed by the immediate relief these new strategies provided me with. Something I am definitely going to remember for a long time. Practicing the stretches and poses themselves also relieved a lot of stresses that I had been feeling. However, the concluding meditation was by far the most pleasant thing to experience. I had learnt to meditate many years ago through my own discovery, but undergoing guided meditation with people around you was very lovely to experience. I think they've hooked me in as I am actually now considered going to regular classes.
After class was over I did my rounds at the local second hand stores, and found something wonderful. I had actually seen this dress two weeks ago in one store but for some reason I didn't take much notice. This week I looked at it again and I realized just how incredible it was! A black velvet late 1960's vintage dress! It is in very good condition and the fabric is flawlessly soft. The only fault to be found is that the tag has been ripped off and the elastic under the bust is a little stretched - but no worries. This beautiful little dress is too pretty not to wear because of that, and it can easily be hidden by a belt or open vest. Could you believe that it was only $8.00?
And how funny. It is almost exactly like the purple dress from Huzzar Huzzar in this post that I mentioned not long ago.
When purchasing the dress I also took this vintage scarf up to the counter. The gentleman was ever so kind to put it in with the dress for free. How lovely!
Title: "Long Cool Woman in A Black Dress" - The Hollies
A while ago, Ana from Where The Roses Go asked me if I would do a guest post for her "A Day in the Life" series - a fantastic idea compiling a series of posts which document 'a day in the life' of other girls out there who incorporate aspects of the 1960's and 1970's within they day-to-day lives. I was thrilled to be considered and at last I have created my own post documenting an ordinary day in my life. You can view it here!
That purple velvet dress is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.
Beautiful dress and matching coat from VintageStylez. I adore this and it is really perfect for me. I like to match and coordinate everything in my outfits - it is often the first thing that people seem to pick up on when it comes to my outfits.
