And so here is my new hair!
(I'm not very adventureous, I am?)
A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to get my hair done. Not just cut. Done, which is something extremely rare for me. Growing up in school I was known for never wearing a different hairstyle, and was sometimes teased for it. I've never frequented hair dressers, having only been to them a couple of times within my life to be honest. I've always had family to cut my hair for me, and myself to look after my fringe. But something got me pining for a change not too long ago. I began dreaming of gorgeous 1960's flip styles. I have always wanted to get one professionally done for years, but I never got to it. Things had been quite stressful at the time so I decide to treat myself and just do it.
These were the ladies who were my main 'flipspiration' at the time. I had recently watched Tim Burton's film "Dark Shadows" (2012) and was swooning over the hair of the character Victoria Winters, and her fabulous set of costumes mind you. This was the change I wanted. Add Jean Shrimpton's volume and Cynthia Lennon's sheen and bounce, and there is a dream hairstyle of mine! I was very happy with how the style turned out. I felt pretty fab! But I feel so silly now as I didn't think to take any pictures of it! The style lasted for about 3-4 days, loosing it's shape a little bit each day. It was fun while it lasted though!

I am currently on the look out for some new rollers and pins so I can replicate the style myself at home. The hair dresser was very lovely and gave me tips throughout the whole appointment on how to do it on my own. She also cut it in a way that the ends would flip up a little on their own without any styling which was very nice. Anyway, here is the outfit that I wore the other night out to the movies. My new hair made me feel like I'd just stepped out of 1964 from a Beatles concert.
Your hair looks absolutely fantastic, Lucy! You definitely look like you're on your way to a Beatles concert :) I've always wanted to get my hair done, but I haven't been to a hair salon since I was little. I feel like my hair has grown to the point where it's just too long to do any sort of hairstyling with, but at the same time, I'm not quite ready to part with my long hair just yet..!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! I understand what you mean. That is how I was feeling before I got my hair cut. It just felt like an awkward length. I was quite nervous getting it cut off but I I am known to sometimes make impulse decisions. I guess this was one of them!
DeleteI love the new length, you honestly look like a Dolly from the 60's. You have gorgeous hair. Is it your natural colour? Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, it is my natural colour. My hair has never been touched by any sort of colouring product. I know many people would consider that boring or unadventurous but I'm too frightened that I will loose my natural colour.
Deleteomg how cute are you! this haircut really suits you. the little fringe and flipped ends are so cute!
ReplyDeleteits really good that you took the time to research a style and then find a hairdresser that actually did what you wanted. you look really happy in the photos! i hope thats because your totally in love with your new haircut? you look so lovely! xo
Thanks, Catherine! It took some searching, most places that I called up didn't actually know what I was talking about when I asked for a quote on how much it would cost to get a flip done. Yes, I am very happy with the new style! It is a lot cooler too, brilliant for this unending heat!
Deletethe first photo of you and that photo of cynthia that you've chosen look so similar- both gorgeous! A new haircut/style is a great way to feel fresh and confident when you start to get bored of your look and want a change (I think at least. That being said I think maybe it's time for me to change my hair.) That length and style fringe suits you very well- Definitely could be a photograph of you coming from a Beatles concert in 1964 :)
ReplyDeleteOh thank you, Anneka! I think you are right too. And I think it is very comforting to know that even if you are not completely satisfied with the change it will always grow back. You have gorgeous hair by the way!
DeleteI love your new hair, it really suits you! My tip for getting the ends to flick out are to use ghds, I couldn't be without mine!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sarah! Yes, I've heard that trick before actually. The thing is though I don't own a straightener at all! Perhaps I should purchase one?
DeleteYour new hair looks lovely! x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vix!
Deleteooooh so freakin adorable!!! i love your hair! the flip style looks so amazing on you! and also the dress is cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mary!
DeleteWow, this new length and cut is soo amazing on you! Brilliant choice!
ReplyDeleteBest,
-Kati
Thank you very much, Kati!
DeleteIt looks wonderful! My hair is so curly naturally, that any style would just get lost!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Melanie! I think curls are beautiful! It is very hard for me to get my hair curled, and even then it only stays in for a couple of hours.
DeleteOh it looks lovely! It really suits you. You really do look a lot like Cynthia in these pictures I think! I think hair really is a persons "crowning glory" and when it looks good it it really makes you feel good and a complete change can be wonderful. I've never had my hair properly styled by a hairdresser (though they always insist on running their straighteners through it which I hate) It's wonderful that you were able to find a stylist that understood exactly what you wanted, something I consider to be a feat in itself!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Faye! I thinks so too, that it is like one's 'crowning glory'. I've had that before. The few times I've been to hairdressers I've had them want to do all sorts of things that I wasn't too keen on. Last time I went the dresser hacked layers into the sides of my hair which I am still trying to grow out. Thankfully this dresser made sure that I was happy with everything. I'm not too keen on straighteners either. Though I am wanting to try the tip that Sarah suggested!
Deleteaw! you look absolutely perfect, Lucy!!
ReplyDeleteI just love your new cut, you do look like you just came from a Beatles concert (now wouldn't that really be something *swoon*)
I'm glad you acted on a nice change, isn't that fun? (when i want some change i usually just re-arrange by bedroom furniture or something lol)
have fun!

Thank you very much, Abigail! Yes, that really would be something! Re-arranging my bedroom is something I wish that I could do for a change, but unfortunately the way my room has been constructed there isn't much I can do!
DeleteOh, I love everything about this. A very pretty hairstyle, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anna!
DeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
DeleteYOU LOOK VERY CUTE ;)

Why thank you!
DeleteThat 60s hair flip looks fabulous on you! I found myself obsessed with Victoria Winters' hairstyle as well. It's a shame the flip doesn't last forever, it needs maintenance... And the volume factor is relevant, right? I've spotted a few successful 60s hairdos in Mad Men - very inspiring^^ And you know Annie Monroe? She has one of the prettiest hair flips ever! x
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you very much! I know, it is a real shame isn't it? Yes, there are some gorgeous hairstyles in Mad Men, as is Annie Monroe's! I've been trying to read up lately on different types of ways that people style their flips and which styling mousses work the best.
DeleteMy gosh, you're so adorable! It actually looks like a photo from the 60's! I'm so glad I found your blog. Following you now! <3
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, well thank you so much! You've made me smile!
