The Ponytail Problem

Just another outfit post. Would you believe that it is winter time over here? I probably look like I'm dressed to go out for a summer stroll along a boardwalk, ha! Don't worry it's not that hot here in Oz, the day still calls for a cardigan and occasionally tights. I bought this beautiful minty coloured skirt the other day from a charity store for only $1.00, would you believe it? The fabric feels so lovely and it is a perfect fit. I've decided to call it 'Audrey' as it reminds me of something she wore in "Roman Holiday". I've got a lot of outfits planned for this one.

What you may have also noticed is that I actually have my hair up in a ponytail! A blue moon occurrence and I bet you've never seen it before. Way back when I was in high school I would wear my hair in a simple ponytail everyday. Every. Single. Day. I was a late riser and I didn't have the time or bother to model exotic styles and whatnot to school. I saved all the effort for the weekends and holidays when I'd dress up in my crazy 1960's costumery. Anyway, because of this hair monotony I would get teased by some of the other girls that put their time into doing their hair and makeup (something I also didn't wear in high school). I didn't think it impacted me much then, but when I think about it for the past few years since leaving school I've refrained from wearing my hair up. I know it's ridiculous, but in the back of my mind I always have that small thought that I look silly, or boring, or plain, or just 'same old Lucy'.

I'm slowly getting over it though! On a much brighter note (apologies for my earlier pessimism!), I've been digging the red lippy lately, and have been wearing it to University almost everyday. It's funny, it's always this time of year too that I begin wearing it. Must be an unconscious winter thing.

  1. Your hair looks lovely in a pony tail. Both elegant yet care free and far from plain or boring. It's so silly that the other girls would tease you for something like that. Often natural beauty can be overlooked- At least you had the confidence to show yours.
I can see that skirt being a wardrobe staple. What luck finding it for only $1! I love Roman Holiday, so I think your nickname for it is fab.

    1. Thank you very much, Anneka. That is really kind of you to say. High school could really be an awful place somtimes, I'm sure for everyone for many reasons! And I'm glad that you like my nickname for it! This skirt will most certainly become a wardrobe staple for me.

  2. Hi, dear Lucy! Only one dollar for that pretty minty skirt? You forced me to use a currency conversion tool and calculate how much one Australian dollar is in U.S. dollars. Based on the beauty of the skirt, I was expecting it to translate to $100 U.S. Instead, to my amazement, it's only 94 cents! That's quite a find!

You are a very lovely young woman, Lucy. From this male's p.o.v. I like what you're doing with your wardrobe, hair and lips. You look terrific! I hope you are having a great weekend, dear friend!

  3. That's ridiculous!!! I can't believe they would tease you about something so stupid!
I think your hair looks really cute like this, you pull off a pony so well! And that skirt! I can't believe you found it for $1, and it's mint! Lucky girl! I definitely get an audrey Hepburn vibe from this skirt as well but the first thing I thought of when I seen this outfit was (500) Days of Summer. This outfit reminds me of an outfit Zooey Deschanel wore in the movie. Love it!

    1. Some young girls can be a little silly I think, but I like to imagine that by now all these years later they've grown up a little bit. Thank you very much for being so nice!
Oh really? I wish I could say I know which outfit you are thinking of but in all honesty I've never scene the movie! Would you recommend it?

  4. Gorgeous skirt, fabulous red lips & a beautiful ponytail. I sure wish I could wear lipstick like that, but I have teeny thin lips & they look just awful with bright or dark lipstick. I always feel kind of naked with my hair up, even though my hubby really likes it. Funny what we get used to. Xx

    1. Thank you very much! It certainly is funny what we get used to. My lips are quite thin too, so I always make the outlines a lot bigger when I wear red lipstick, so that I can't really tell. I don't know if anyone else can though, haha!

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely words, you've really made me smile. I usually don't worry about little things like that, but when I realized that it had stopped me from wearing my hair up for so many years I got such a shock! It is amazing the things that can get to us.

    1. Thank you! And I am glad you understand, Abigail. I was a little worried that people might think I'm a little silly for letting something so small get to me. I was always the same with the lipstick in the past, if you like it I think you should definitely give it a go!
And you are very welcome in regards to the comments, I'm so glad that they brighten your day!

  12. I really like your ponytail! It's lovely and long and thick. I'm quite conscious of wearing a ponytail too. I only wear them for the gym because I think having my hair pulled back shows how small my head is in comparison to my broad shoulders! Haha
That skirt is a lovely colour! It would look good with a sunny yellow top! That's a lovely glossy red lippy! What brand is it?

    1. Thank you, Catherine! Isn't it funny what things get to us? And I bet we are the only ones that see it! Never thought of matching the skirt with a yellow blouse - shall have to try! And thank you, the lipstick I am wearing is called "Royal Red" by Maybelline :)

  14. There's something playful and juvenile about a ponytail and I like that. Your outfit is very reminiscent of Audrey indeed :) I've never wore make up in school either! xx
