And so another Valentine's Day is here. I understand that many people have mixed feelings about this day, believe me - I was once there too - but now I've come to see just what it can be. It is not just a day dedicated to soppy couples and expensive candlelit dinners, but all kinds of love; the kind that we all live and breathe off. Love as a basic human need. Love of family, friends, partners and pets (mustn't forget them!) and, perhaps most importantly, love for ourselves. Some of you may think, what is the point? Shouldn't we express these feelings everyday? Well of course! But I think any excuse to go out and go overboard with expressing such a wonderful thing is a good excuse, so why not? I've been keeping the spirit of the upcoming day by wearing lots of red recently and my feet are practically glued to these Mel heart slippers of mine. Perfect for the occasion, no?
Whichever way you choose to celebrate the day, whether it be having a day out with friends and family, a night in with your sweetheart watching Netflix, or indulging in a bulk load of chocolate and a rose petal bubble bath, I hope that you have a marvelous time and remember to spoil yourselves.

Hi, dear Lucy in the Sky! That's a super picture of you. You always look striking dressed in bright red. I hope you and your boy have a wonderful Valentine's Day and celebrate it in your own special way. Mrs. Shady and I got a jump on the holiday two eves ago by enjoying a delicious dinner at our favorite seafood restaurant.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend, dear friend Lucy!
Thanks so much, Shady! We did have a wonderful day. I hope that you and Mrs. Shady did as well, and very clever to get a jump on the holiday - we did the same and celebrated it early!
DeleteBeautiful post :) I love those mel by melissa shoes!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right! I always HATED valentines day because it all seemed like a club I couldn't be part of. People would get roses and chocolates at school and people would talk about their dates. Then when I was older I decided it to be about all love, friends, family, pets and significant others. Now I have a boyfriend I don't even really think that valentines needs to be about romantic love, maybe it should be about showing our love to those that aren't reminded enough :)
Thank you very much!
DeleteYes, that is a good way to describe the feeling. I always felt like I was part of 'that' club too. Sometimes it is hard to see things a certain way but some things are really just about outlook. It is amazing what a change in perspective can do for human beings. I also love how the commercial world slowly seems to be making Valentine's Day a more platonic concept. A much better approach I think!
Typically, I'm not really into hearts, but I'm crazy about those shoes! I love the pop-arty combo of the hearts and stripes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
I'm glad that you like them and that you pick up on the pop-arty vibes - that's what made me fall in love with them. And I hope that you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
Deleteah, you two are so cute. and i soooo agree with this. i have friends who complain about valentines day because they're single or whatever, but i grew up with valentines day being about all love. we get together and have a family meal, giving little gifts to each other just for fun.
ReplyDeletehope you have a great one :)
Oh thank you! That's such a lovely view to have and how lovely to hear that your family have such a loving tradition. I hope that you all enjoyed your day!
DeleteYour outfit reminds me of this cartoon, you look just like her: http://i.imgur.com/XuJlCAg.jpg ^_^
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to take a day to remember to cherish those in our lives and to actually think about love, it's easy to say you should do it every day but we're all guilty of taking for granted now and then and it's all just a bit of fun anyway! I bought a nice box of chocolates today to give to myself tomorrow to show myself a bit of love. I totally agree with you that self love is just as important, otherwise how can we truly be happy.
I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow with your loved ones ♥
What a cute cartoon, I'm flattered haha - couldn't believe about those shoes!
DeleteYou are very right. And good on you for treating yourself, I hope that you enjoyed your day. Yes, we all need to accept self love as something regular and as a basic need.
your shoes and your whole outfit is so adorable! i'm not too big on valentine's day, but can appreciate it in the way you seem to be doing:-) hope you have a lovely day tomorrow (well i suppose it's today already..)! also, i appreciate the beatles quote, love that song! x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I'm glad that you can appreciate the outlook that I've adopted. I hope that you enjoyed your day and glad that you liked The Beatles' quote!

Aww thank you so much, Taylor! I hope you and yours enjoyed your day!
DeleteHappy very belated valentines to you! My boyfriend and I don't do valentines. In fact we skipped a dinner out because we realised it was valentines day and we would have been stuck in the city paying for expensive valentines crap! haha.
ReplyDeleteI did however use it as an excuse to extend the love to my girlfriends - Galentines as its called. And cause its mainly us gals who love all that special red hearts and flower stuff, so instead lets just give it to our gal-pals!
beautiful! i love your shoes!
