She's Bought A Hat Like Princess Marina

I am not a big hat wearer. Really, this is quite silly considering how many hats I have boxed up layer upon layer in my closet. If it weren't for how small the above hat is, this I believe would change almost, if not, immediately.

I hadn't had any luck for a few weeks in my searches for vintage goodies, nor do I have many vintage hats, so I was very excited to come across this beautiful bright green, velvety, vintage hat complete with decorative ribbon and gold buttons. Upon seeing it I scooped it up quickly and eagerly hurried to the change rooms to see how it looked in the mirror. My face turned from a smile into a frown as I realized that my head was too big for it. Determined, I must have stood in the mirror for about five minutes trying to place the hat perfectly on my head, hoping that with every twist and turn the hat would somehow magically fit. In the end I decided it was too pretty to leave behind. So I bought it home with me. It is now sitting on top of my lampshade looking beautiful. I think my family disagree though (and you might too). They thought it looked like something a leprechaun might wear!

As mentioned here, hats are something that I've been wanting to wear more of lately, especially as the warmer weather is approaching. So I've shared here some lovely hat-wearing 1960's ladies who have been inspiring me.

What's something that you've been wanting to wear more of lately?

And how cute are those vintage daisy clip-on earrings that I found the other week?!

  1. Oh that is a delightful hat. I can see why it had to come home with you. It fascinates me that heads were so much smaller back then. Rarely does a vintage hat fit me. I adore the earrings too. Xx

    1. It is unusual isn't it, that in such a short period something can change so much. I'm glad that I'm not the only one, I always though it was just me!

  2. What a great color!!! I also love the daisy earrings (of course :)). I dont wear hats often, either, but i do buy them, even if they dont fit. Some are just too pretty to pass up. Love the picture of Pattie and Ponelope!

    1. This shade of green is one of my very favourite colours. They do make for pretty decorations, don't they? And aren't they such fabulous ladies?

  3. What a cute hat! I wouldn't want to pass it up either. I always want to start wearing more hats too, but am rather at a loss when it comes to styling them.

    1. Thanks! I think that's what it is that stops me from wearing them. 90 percent of the time my hair just doesn't feel right with a hat.

  4. It's good you bought the hat, even if you don't wear it you can admire it, like art!

  5. Yes! I totally want to wear more hats! I have a nice floppy felt one but it's black so it's not the best for sunny days. Perhaps a floppy straw one is required! I also have hat buying issues. Perhaps it is a hangover from our schools days - no hat no play etc. funny how hardly anyone wears hats now! It's not like the sun has gotten less sun-burny. I have quite a few including a very nice cloche hat in navy felt which I've never worn because it's been to hard to style my hair for it. That hat on the other hand is lovely and velvety green. Two things I love!

    1. Your black hat sounds lovely, but I know how you must feel. I don't feel quite right if I wear very dark colours, especially black, on very sunny days. Though I think for me that might be due to the fact that it absorbs more heat. A floppy straw hat would be perfect!
It is funny how hats are hardly worn now, and to think in the past it was needed for an outing/occasion. And yes, I've got a red cloche hat, but have never really worn it for the exact same reason!

  6. I love hats too, but hardly ever wear them as I always feel like it's a commitment as it usually flattens my hair underneath so I feel like I can't take it off. And as silly as it sounds I'm never sure of the etiquette when wearing a hat indoors. Although I do throw them on regardless when it starts getting too cold! That's a very lovely hat you've bought, the colour is fantastic. Such a shame it doesn't fit, but like you I'd probably of bought it anyway, I'm terrible for that! It's funny how small old hats were, they often don't fit me either and I don't feel I have a particularly big head.

    1. It is a bit of a commitment to wear a hat, isn't it? And no, I don't think that sounds silly, I agree with you. The times I do where a hat I am always a little bit nervous when indoors, wondering whether I should be wearing it or not. I'm glad that I am not the only one, I feared greatly that I must have a big head haha!

  7. Its great being a vintage seller, I can buy hats that don't fit and get real joy finding a woman with the right sized head! In all my vintage-lovin' years I've only managed a collection of about 15 hats, my head is massive! x

  9. Oh, I love your blog! I adore hats, and I have quite a collection myself that I don't get enough use out of. I love the one that Twiggy is wearing the best, but they are all fantastic :)

  11. It is exciting, yes! I don't think I'll ever be able to wear it, but I am still happy that I bought it!

  12. What a beautiful green color! I also love the pairing of the daisy earrings in the photo; it reminds me of springtime! I would love to wear hats more often, but I never seem to go through with the idea. I have a small collection of hats that I've collected during my early teenage years (mainly equestrienne and 60s-inspired), but I always feel like a fish out of water when I remember to wear them. That, and sunglasses! I would love to wear those more as well, but I always have a difficult time finding a pair that goes well with my face shape.

    1. The colour is what drew me to it, it's perhaps my favourite shade of green and I'm glad you got the springtime vibes too!
Oh, I am like that with sunglasses too! I have a ridiculous amount of retro looking ones that I've piled up over the years, but I can barely bring myself to wear them as I feel they just don't look right.

I have a love/hate relationship with hats, when it comes to wearing them, but they are such wonderful statements! X
