Living Reflection of a Dream

I've resumed my studies after having two months off and quite honestly, though stress will always be present with the work load, I am glad to be back. Things are a little different now. It is strange coming back to the same campus, classrooms and classmates as a changed person. It almost feels like I've gone way back to my days at art school as a school leaver, completely on my own and unknowing of what will come next. For the past few years my future plans had been formed, shaped and set around another person. Before me now lies a blank slate. Like a teen aged Eleanor Rigby, I don't really know what will come next but I do know now that I have the power to make what I like of it.

I've been trying to keep busy lately. I'm a person that is attached so deeply to their thoughts and so naturally these can consume me from time to time. Keeping myself busy helps me to live in the immediate and focus on what is right in front of me. I've been cooking (those who know me well will understand that this is something trying for me!), giving myself more complex songs to learn on guitar, spending more time with my family and sorting through my possessions. It's been very refreshing and helps to instantly lift the weight off my shoulders when things become too stressful. I'm hoping that focusing on my studies will have the same effect.

What are some things that you do to keep busy?
I'd love to try something new.

Oh Lucy, i hear you. I hear you loud and clear. Besides going back to school, which i have just finished, i'm finding myself in the exact same situations and mindsets right now. it's both freeing and painful. Keeping busy is good. I've been trying this, and many of the things you listed. Also what works for me is writing. Just typing it all out. everything, but challenging myself to write and focus on the good.
I wish you all the best.

  3. Glad to hear you are enjoying your studies.I definitely can understand the need to keep busy and take your mind off things. For me going on long walks and taking photos is always a good way to clear my head when I'm feeling stressed.

  6. My sister died, and it was the hardest thing I have ever lived through. When I read that there was a death in the family, and all that extra stuff you were dealing with...gah! I just wanted to send you love, and peace. I wish I could pause the world, stop it spinning and give you a chance to breathe before it continued on.

Do you recall that scene in Sleepless in Seattle? Tom Hanks talking about breathing in and out? <3

I'm glad you're back blogging. There are many people here that adore you and I hope that gives you something golden to hold on to.

    1. Oh! I should add. I blogged to keep busy. I walked. I walked and walked. I read books. I got distracted by the perfection of little things, like reflections on puddles and colours of flowers. I danced. I sang. I wrote music. <3

  7. Lucy, when my father died a few years ago, I also kept myself busy. Not to run away from the thoughts that can't be escaped anyways, but not to freak out. It helps, and if it makes you feel good, then it's good.

  8. Oh I hear you about consuming thoughts. :-/ This may sound silly, but I've been braiding a rag rug lately. Best of luck with your studies!

  9. Apologies for taking so long to comment, ive had this open on my browser for ages. I hope uni is going well for you? I always like to try to do things i know i can do and enjoy, that way despite all the chaos around me, there is something i can 100% control the progress and outcome of. Have you tried any of those great colouring books for adults that have come out lately? they are wonderful for stress and help with calm and concentration :)
