Houndstooth, Half Done Hair and Heels From Hell

I suppose you could say that I've been a bit slack on outfit posts this year. But I'm trying! This was what I wore the other day whilst walking out to the bus stop to go up and see the boy. Quite the disaster really. I was running late and only had time to half-'flip' my hair. But because I am a bit of a day-dreamer I forgot to put the spray in to set it. By the time I took this photo my half done hair had half fallen out anyway. But that is not at all what made this outfit disastrous.

These here that I'm wearing are the shoes that were shown in this last post. They are black patent heels with a cute sixties looking block heel. I have been wearing them about the house lately to break 'em in, and thought that I had successfully done so as I was no longer experiencing any pain. Thus, I decided to wear them out, along with my new houndstooth dress, a vintage green scarf, vintage purse and my sweet little 'Marianne' glasses in my groovy new case. Whilst walking out I felt quite fabulous (despite my heckish hair-do). But halfway there I felt something strange. I looked down and to my complete surprise my feet were covered from heel to toe in blood. Guess I had quite a misjudgment there. What a dill I am. Unluckily having no tissues nor bandaids in my purse, which I usually carry with me all the time, I had to hobble to the nearest 7/11 looking like I'd just stepped out from not only a gruesome crime scene, but one from 45 years ago. What a sight I must have been!

Have you ever had any big wardrobe mishaps? I'd love to hear!

It may make me feel a little bit better about my clumsiness.

  1. Ouch! I've had a big wardrobe mishap but it wasn't nearly as painful as yours. My favourite pair of trousers is held up by a single button. I was out shopping one day and the button popped off. My trousers fell straight down to my ankles. I had to waddle back to the car while holding them up. Thank goodness I always keep a small sewing kit in my purse!

    1. Oh no! You poor dear! That is a very clever idea - to always keep a little sewing kit with you. I always make sure I have safety pins in case of clothes popping open or falling down.

  2. Hello again, Lucy! Well, this is a bloody good post, dear friend! :) Are you saying that your new shoes made you bleed? Please forgive me for being a clueless man but I can't imagine how that happened if you didn't feel any pain whilst walking in them.

I will testify that you look super in this outfit and I see nothing at all wrong with your hair. In fact, you look quite adorable and the black and white photo adds to the illusion that you stepped off the pages of a 60s fashion zine.

Lucy, I want to personally thank you for posting birthday greetings on my blog for 102 year old Margaret Schneider. Margaret's daughter, Kathleen, reads each and every comment aloud to her and it brings her great joy knowing people all over the world care about her. Thank you for caring, Lucy. Thank you for being great and making a difference in a life with a few kind words. Enjoy your day and the rest of your week!

    1. Hello Shady! Yes, my new shoes cut into the back of my feet. I'm not sure why I didn't feel any pain, it was only until I looked down that I started to feel the sensation. Perhaps I was distracted and worried that I'd miss my bus.
And thank you very much, how lovely of you to say. I thought that was so lovely to hear that Margaret's daughter reads every comment aloud to hear. How lovely for her. It really made me smile.

    2. Thank you for making a difference in a life with your kind comment on SDMM, dear Lucy. How many times in life do we get the chance to make a 102 year old person happy with just a few words? Thank you for bringing forth your greatness!

  3. Nice outfit Lucy !
I had several wardrobe mishaps , always with shoes but the worst was certainly with new old stock flat 60s boots . I was going to the supermarket , it was raining so EVERYBODY were waiting under cover at the supermarket entrance ... and could see the show !
I walked to the entrance and suddenly , i felt my foot ... light and wet . When i look back, i saw my entire sole left on the road ! I 'm always a bit frightened now with N.O.S shoes because it happened to me several times with other shoes , the glue doesn't stuck anymore after few steps !

    1. Thank you! Oh no! I'm very sorry to hear that you had an audience. I hope it makes for a good story and a good laugh for you though. And you must have been very disappointed about the shoes! I've had the soles fall off before, but I've been lucky to never have it happen during the wet weather!

  4. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in experiencing killer shoes. I seem to have the most tender feet that blister at the slightest rub. I am known to always have a spare pair of sandals in my 'crap bag' in the car. That way if there are any mishaps, I have a comfortable option. You look gorgeous. I love your outfit photos. Xx

    1. Killer shoes - that is exactly what shoes can be! Having a pair of sandals in your car is a splendid idea, and if I had one of my own I would be doing the exact same thing. And thank you very much, that makes me very glad!

  5. oh no! so many terrible things to happen in such a short space of time! I hope you managed to meet with your boyfriend in the end? He would have been far too occupied with how pretty you look to notice the flip had fell out! i always smear a coat of vaseline on the inside of the heel - along the heel and the toe- anywhere you would normally get a blister. the vaseline stops the friction which creates blisters and although it sounds icky, the vaseline eventually dissipates, either by conditioning the shoe fabric or by giving you happy feet. it always works for me!

    1. Yes, I managed to meet him, but instead of in my gorgeous but now bloody shoes in a pair of reduced Australian flag thongs left over from Australia Day bought from a late hour chemist. But that is lovely of you to say!
That is a very clever idea. I am most certainly wanting to try it now!

  6. On no! Sorry to hear about the shoes. I made the mistake of wearing shoes with too big a heel when I went to a 60s all-nighter on Sunday. By half 3 my feet were literally burning from all the dancing, next time I go I must remember to wear my mary janes with the smaller heel! Your outfit looks fabulous though, even if the shoes did cause you pain x

    1. Yes, I think I was most upset by my shoes getting ruined! Oh that must have been so painful! I hope they didn't spoil your fun though. A smaller heel sounds like a good idea for a night out dancing, but it can be so hard to resist those gorgeous shoes staring out at you in your closet, right? And thank you very much.

  7. Ohh! Bloody feet, how awful! Great outfit, though. And your hair is beautiful. Houndstooth is so classic. :-)

I've had lots and lots of wardrobe malfunctions - mostly embarrassing ones. Recently: 1). half-slip fell to my ankles in the middle of a crowd 2). Lost the sole of my boot on a walk in the rain. Limped all the way home!

    1. Haha! Thank you very much, Anna.
Oh no! What did you do? I hope nobody noticed. That actually reminds me of a scene from a Lucille Ball movie - "Yours, Mine and Ours". She is having drinks in a crowded night club on a date and her half-slip falls down to her ankles! And sorry to hear about your boots. That must have been very disappointing as well as extremely uncomfortable to get your feet wet!

  8. Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about that, it sounds terribly painful! I have a pair of patent 60s dead stock shoes that I'm trying to break in at the moment and the leather at the back of the heel feels like it may as well be made out of steel it's so stiff and uncomfortable and I fear it would make me bleed in much the same fashion as yours if I wear them too long. I've had many wardrobe malfunctions, the most embarrassing is no doubt when, on a beautifully sunny day I went out wearing a lemon cotton dress which went completely transparent when the heavens suddenly opened! I always check the forecast before I go out since then!

At least you look lovely though, and hopefully your day wasn't too ruined!

    1. I can only imagine how stiff those shoes of yours are! Be careful with them, I wouldn't want you to get bloodied up feet as well!
Oh dear that must have been dreadful! I hope that you were able to get home quickly to get another dress on. And thank you very much!

  9. Oh my lord, that sounds terrifying!! D: I hate having foot injuries, I think they're the worst. I was recently trying to break in a pair of birkenstocks and I ended up having to wear them for several hours longer than I expected and I got huge blisters on the side of my foot right by my heel. I had to hobble around for weeks to avoid making them worse!!
And injury aside, this outfit is darling and you look lovely as usual!!

    1. Oh you poor darling! Getting blisters are so awful, especially in the sense that they can completely prevent you from wear most of the shoes in your closet.
And thank you so much, Jaime!
