Look Through My Window

The walls are bare at the moment, and the sun looked so pretty shining through the window in the spare bedroom. So I thought I'd revel in the opportunity of such good lighting to take some snaps one of my favourite dresses at the moment. It is from the brand Revival, by Dangerfield, which incorporates a lot of vintage inspired elements in its designs. You can view the dress here. It makes me think of something that Marianne Faithfull or Sylvie Vartan would have worn in the 1960's. Yet, upon wearing it in front of the boy for the first time he could not help but call me "Madeline". Who am I kidding though, the dress is called "Croissants for Breakfast" after all! Wearing the dress I had a lot of fun prancing about and making my best attempt to channel my inner 1960's wannabe model. The boy's cat, who happened to be in the room at the time and even got cuddled in a couple of snaps, was quite confused to say the least. I imagine that it must have been quite an odd sight for her to see!

Showing my face so clearly on my blog isn't something that I've done much of in the past. In my pictures I'm usually always looking down or off to the side. I wouldn't call myself photogenic, and when having my picture taken by others I can't help but feel shy or embarrassed. However, I'm beginning to become more comfortable in my own skin and have been feeling lately that perhaps it is time for a change, and that I should allow myself the freedom of having confidence in myself and enjoying the experience of what taking pictures can be.

  1. Such a lovely dress! It's so good that you're getting more confident, I'm trying to work on the same thing. Lots of my photos are me looking away :P Maybe I should take a leaf out of your book and try a little bit more :)

  2. You look wonderful and in the first pic quite a Sylvie Vartan doppelganger! Needless to state, I do love that dress :) Your hair always looks good. Whenever I try to layer mine for a slight 60s vibe, I end up looking like a bimbo poodle.

  3. Ohh! I just love everything about these photos! You are stunning, and look so genuinely 1960s!
Back in high school, I remember a friend said how much I dressed like Madeline one day, and I never realized until then how much of an influence she's had on my style from all those years of watching the series, haha!

    1. What lovely words, thank you so much! Madeline's clothing was very cute. Isn't it amazing how even something as simple as a loved childhood show or book can influence our style years on?

    1. So nice of you to say such lovely things, thank you! I can't resist a good peter pan collar and it's funny you say that, I'm actually dressing up as a china doll for the Halloween occasion! Thanks again, Abigail!

  5. This is such a lovely photo shoot! You look adorable in that dress, just like you popped out the 1960s! I am trying to get over feeling shy about taking photos too, I used to hate every photo of myself where I wasn't hiding my face, but then I started posting the other pictures anyway and I am slowly getting over it.

  7. You have the most beautiful face and I hope to see more of it on the blog!!! These photos are just SO gorgeous and you look every bit as wonderful as Marianne Faithful. Really beautiful photography too! Do you think you could post some close up shots of your eyes in the future? I really want to see how you do your makeup, yours is such a pretty quintessential 60s look! I have some really beautiful mod dresses in my wardrobe waiting to be blogged but I just can't quite get the hang of the 60s makeup :P

  8. Ahh Lucy! You have such a lovely face and gorgeous hair! You should definitely make an effort to show it to use more often! And in a lovely soft light and the bright white walls have complimented you well.
And I must compliment you on your dress choice as I am wearing the exact same dress at this very moment while I type this!! Yes, I know you posted this yesterday, but it's totally serendipitous as I only read this post today and had a chuckle to myself on the bus looking at another blonde in the same dress as I!
I get called Madeline and Sailor Moon in this dress, but I feel it is more like Zooey Deschanel, which is probably why my boyfriend likes it so much. Haha

Really I laughed out loud and could not believe that you were wearing the exact same dress whilst reading the post! Great minds think alike eh? Funny, I've had someone call it a Sailor Moon dress too, and I definitely see the Zooey Deschanel vibes in the dress haha!

  16. Great photos, you look lovely in that dress! I am quite the opposite, whenever I am having my photo taken I feel more shy looking away or down... probably because I feel more like I am "modeling" if I look away from the camera and a model I am not haha looking AT the camera is easier because it just feels like I'm getting a regular ol' photo taken! :P
