There She Goes Again

Another "There She Goes Again" post. This time with Twiggy and her incredible shoes in approximately 1966. They are red patent leather mary-janes with a small, sensible heel and white straps and trim. I can't quite find out who was responsible for producing these beautiful shoes but it is clear that our Twiggy liked them just as much as I do. Do you have any ideas who the designer/brand could be?

For a modern day go-to equivalent to these darling shoes I would choose the Milly Shoe in Red & Cream by Orla Kiely for Clarks. Hands down. The resemblance is just amazing, don't you think? Unfortunately all sizes for the shoe are currently sold out but you can still have a look at the shoe here if you are interested.

  1. They are very lovely shoes. I have a soft spot for red dolly shoes as my mum had a pair in the sixties/early seventies (although not patent) and wore them right into the eighties and oh I coveted them! They did up with a button and I have such fond memories of them that I have ever since coveted red dolly shoes (preferably patent). I have since seen a picture of Keith Moon's wife Kim wearing the same shoes back in the day x

    1. Oh goodness I would have loved to have seen those shoes. Red has got to be the most perfect colour for dolly shoes. I actually just gifted myself with a pair today!

  3. Yes, I definitely thought the Milly shoe in red was a dead ringer for Twiggy's shoes as soon as I saw them! I almost got them for that reason alone but opted for the mustard instead. Twiggy wore these shoes so often I've lost count of the amount of photos I've seen with them. Can't blame her though, they are fab!

    1. Red shoes are just so lively, are they not? Unfortunately I find it hard to find red shoes to wear. The have to be the perfect shade and the perfect style. I bought myself a pair today that I think almost tick all the boxes for me. Red moccasins sound nice! And yes, wasn't Twiggy just adorable.

  8. Great spotting again Lucy! I love Twiggys little shoes, especially how the white strap surrounds the ankle only and not the whole shoe. 60s shoes have wonderful little details like that.
I wonder if Orla had also seen Twiggys shoes and used the photos in her sketch book?

    1. Thanks Catherine! Yes, I particularly love the little white strap that goes over the toes - so unique. I thought that exactly the first time I saw her Milly shoe design. They are just too similar and both too perfect!
