First Outfit Post of the Season

And so my holidays have finally begun, at last! I've been making the most of my time so far, lounging about in my pajamas, finally beginning to read a book and doing some cleaning out of my chock-a-block wardrobes.

The other day I wore one of the latest additions to my mass of clothes: a bright green polo shirt. It's not vintage or anything, but the colour is the most perfect green I've ever seen, and oh so 60's feeling. I wish the lighting in my room wasn't so bad so you could get a more accurate image. I always feel that the outfits photos I post on this blog never really do the clothing items much justice (thanks for putting up with them all!). Anyhoo, I wore it with a houndstooth scarf tucked in and was inspired by our Twig the Wonder Kid of course, in a shot from one of her Twiggy Dresses promotional shoots.

Hmm. Perhaps I should have worn my white tights. Then my outfit would have been even more Twiggy-esque.

There She Goes Again

Another "There She Goes Again" post. This time with Twiggy and her incredible shoes in approximately 1966. They are red patent leather mary-janes with a small, sensible heel and white straps and trim. I can't quite find out who was responsible for producing these beautiful shoes but it is clear that our Twiggy liked them just as much as I do. Do you have any ideas who the designer/brand could be?

For a modern day go-to equivalent to these darling shoes I would choose the Milly Shoe in Red & Cream by Orla Kiely for Clarks. Hands down. The resemblance is just amazing, don't you think? Unfortunately all sizes for the shoe are currently sold out but you can still have a look at the shoe here if you are interested.

Dynel Dolly

I thought that I might just make a quick post of a few pictures from the 1967 photo shoot of the lovely Twiggy wearing a long Dynel hair piece as she poses in a variety of cute hand knitted outfits.

In the later 1960's in order to assist in gaining height in beehive and bouffant hairstyles, many women wore Dynel hairpieces. Dynel was a synthetic hair that was originally used for Barbie Dolls. The product could be bought from large department stores and there it would be dyed to accurately match the buyer's hair colour. It would then be pinned to the woman's head in a way that it would appear as natural hair. It could be disguised by braiding it, hiding the pins with strands of natural hair wrapped around them, or by using a pretty head band or ribbon, as Twiggy has done so for this photo shoot.

Dynel was also used to make faux fur in the 1960's.  It can be seen used in many vintage coats and handbags.

Will The Real Twiggy Please Stand Up?

Pictures of Twiggy, Manhattan, New York, 1967

I was the first to photograph Twiggy in the United States. She was an overnight sensation. Every one wanted to be Twiggy. I suggested everyone wear Twiggy masks, which were shot and manufactured in the studio a week before the shoot. I believe we manufactured over 500 masks of which I have a few left. We gave them out to the crowds who gathered to watch the shoot at the selected locations. Although the participants promised to give the masks back, they mysteriously disappeared.

"Put Razzle-Dazzle in Your Writing!"

For many people, including myself, the experience (or task) of writing can be made just that little bit more enjoyable (or bearable) if one is using a nice, snazzy pen that writes well. I would adore one of these Twiggy Pens, released by Scripto in 1967.

"Only Scripto makes this new ball-point Twiggy Pen. It's Twiggy tall to give you more ink. It's sizzle-striped to put razzle-dazzle in your writing! Six colour combinations. Hot colours. Cool colours. 69c for one Twiggy Pen. $1.98 for a gift box of three different Twiggy Pens."

Vinyl Goodies

As well as the Twiggy Barbie Doll, in 1967 American toy company Mattel Inc. also released "four fun products that happen to be what's happening!" These included the Twiggy Binder, the Twiggy Treasure Box, the Twiggy Tote and the Twiggy Mini Purse. All products had a "Soft vinyl construction", were washable and came in either white or yellow varieties, each with colourful graphics and a photographic image of Twiggy.

The Twiggy 3-Ring Binder

The Twiggy Treasure Box, measuring approximately 8 x 5 inches. It came with a lock and key, and the interior was lined with blue vinyl.

The Twiggy Fashion Tote Bag

The Twiggy Mini-Purse with chain, blue vinyl interior and "removable photo holder section". The purse was packaged in clear plastic with a pink cardboard header. It also included a "mirror, nail file, pencil, note pat & comb! Bill pocket & zipper pocket!"
