Cathy's Survival Kit

This is something that has been on my wish list for quite some time. In the 1960's Cathy McGowan, mod icon and British dolly who is most famously known for presenting the popular music show "Ready, Steady, Go!", launched her own product. This was "Cathy's Survival Kit"; Cathy's own cosmetics case for busy girls needing a touch-up on the go. It looks to me like the kit included two lipsticks, a mascara, eye pencil, concealer and either a blush or eyeshadow.

I am an absolute sucker for cosmetics with colourful and groovy 1960's designs, so this is right up my alley. I'd carry Cathy's cosmetics with me everything, feeling oh so mod!

  1. That's such a lovely kit! I've seen it before (on your tumblr, I think!). Did you ever came across it in a shop/internet? xxx

    1. No, unfortunately! I've looked and kept checking on ebay but no luck. Hopefully one day it'll pop up somewhere for me! xx

    2. I've never seen it for sale but you might be lucky with other auditions websites. I usually find some rare 60s memorabilia on those by googling the name of the product and looking through all the pages (eventually they come up) but expect it to be expensive! xxx

    3. Ooh good idea, I'll definitely have a look. And yes, unfortunately I am expecting it to be quite expensive. I am wanting to start a collection of 1960's cosmetic products sometime in the future, but when I think of the reality of how much they will cost I can't help but feel a little disheartened. One day, perhaps. xx

    4. I know what you mean, I'm lucky enough that the person who sold me my Biba make up charged a VERY friendly price because I've seen one of the products I have reaching £90 on ebay! xxx

  2. What a groovy make up bag and contents. I grew up playing with Mum's boxed sets of Mary Quant and Biba, the smell of old cosmetics take me right back. x

  4. I love the makeup bag and kit. I loved Cathy McGowan's style in the 60s so to find one of these kits one day would be so cool. x

  5. I've really been appreciating that 60s mod look lately. It's hard to pick a favorite muse though so thanks for this inspiration.

  9. This has really taken me back . For my 13th Birthday in 1971, what a gorgeous surprise it was , I think Cathy had one for Blondes and one for Brunettes, I had the Blonde one . I spent many hours enjoying this kit. And wasn’t Cathy Mcgowan absolutely gorgeous ? I think Claudia Winkleman looks a lot like her . Thank you for the memories ❤️
