Seeing Double

Here's a little something that I thought was interesting. I came across this photo of Ringo Starr with two fans not long ago, taken on Miami Beach in 1964 by Harry Benson. Now I've seen this picture countless times before, but what I never really noticed was the swimsuit that the girl on the right was wearing: a beautiful black glossy one piece with a silver zipper down the front. What interested me is that it looks to be the exact same swimsuit that Ringo's then future wife, Maureen Cox, would wear two years later on Arnos Vale Beach in Tobago, whilst on holiday with the Beatle as well as John Lennon and his wife, Cynthia Powell, in 1966. 

Coincidence? What do you think?

Three's A Charm

I apologize for the lack of posts lately. I do have good reason for it though - I promise! Anyway, here is another "Three's A Charm" post, the first of my "Seeing Double" series including a male. Here we have Marianne Faithfull, George Harrison and an unknown sixties bird all wearing this nifty little pair of heart shaped shades with gold frames. All look fabulous in them, and you can clearly see how versatile these little shades are, looking snazzy with almost anything. I do have to say however that I think George looks the best. I don't think there are many men in this world that could pull off shades like this!

Seeing Double

Yet another "Seeing Double" post. Now I'm sure many of you will have seen this image of Jenny Boyd, looking the adorable sixties dolly she was, posing in a red London telephone booth before. The picture was taken in 1965, when London boutiques were then overflowing with shortened hemlines and bright, and playful designs to reflect the changing face and place of youths in society. Here is an image of another model wearing the same dress as Jenny and striking a different but very sophisticated pose. The dress is called the "Sunburst" dress, and was created by designer duo Foale and Tuffin. It was made of crepe wool and featured a matching tie belt as can be seen in the images. There are certainly no questions asked as to why it was titled as so. The gorgeous colours and sloping lines like rays from the sun speak for themselves. 

Which model do you think wore the dress better?

Both simply look stunning, but I must say I prefer Jenny's modelling of the dress as I think it better encapsulates the idea of the playful and youthful nature of fashion at the time.

Seeing Double

Just a quick little post. I haven't done one of these in a long while! This sparkly silver and dark purple little lurex number by Pierre Cardin was seen worn by two lovely ladies in the 1960's.

Here we have the wife of Tara Browne, the late heir to the Guinness fortune, Nicky, pictured with her husband in a spread for Men In Vogue in November, 1966. She's paired the mini dress with a cute chain belt. 

And below we have song bird Marianne in the same dress for a recorded television performance. She has paired it with silver shoes by Bally. 

Who do you think wore the dress better?

Personally I prefer the way that Nicky wore it. 

To me she looks just like she's ready to go out dancing.

Three's A Charm

Just a quick post.

You may remember this "Seeing Double" post from a while back. Look what I  have stumbled across.

It is the same dress designed by American fashion designer Bill Blass in the late 1960's.

I still prefer it in green worn by the Vogue dolly-bird from 1968.

I've nearly no interest in any modern fashion, and find it boring when I read of celebrities seen wearing the same outfits and being  criticized for it by many a people. Call me a hypocrite if you like, but I do however find it interesting when I see it occur way back when in my favourite decade!

I don't know what it is. Perhaps it is because I actually have interest in the people wearing the outfits, or for the beautiful outfits themselves or perhaps it is a combination of both - most likely.
