Pretty Flamingo

Outfit:

- Black headband
- Thrifted pink merino blouse
- Vintage grey skirt
- Vintage black handbag
- Vintage black mary-jane shoes

Well my goodness it's been a while since I've done an outfit post! Since moving back into my family home it has been quite hard to take outfit pictures as there is very low natural lighting in my room (and I am constantly trying to organize it). So here is what I wore today. At last we got some rain and a bit of cool, so I decided to pull out this little merino blouse that I bought not long ago from a second hand store. It caught my eye because the colour reminded me of a flamingo.

Recently I've also started wearing this lipstick of mine. It is Super Lustrous Lipstick in Silver City Pink by Revlon. It's a real 60's pink, I think. It's frosty pearly, pink colour reminds me of a Yardley Slicker Stick. Don't you reckon? It also feel that it works well with my skin tone which is a plus.

Whilst wandering about yesterday the boy and I picked up some Love Hearts. I don't think I'd ever had them before. Quite nice they are. And this morning whilst my mother was cleaning out some letter racks in the bar she came across this little gold knick knack. It is a tiny sewing kit and pen that belonged to my father, and she gave it to me. Inside are two spools of thread and a gold thimble.

Lately in my travels I also bought this pretty vintage 1960's evening bag made in Japan. This is the first beaded evening purse in my vintage bag collection. And I assure you not the last!
I am also a real sucker for vanity sets. I found this one for only $3.00 because the glass in the mirror is broken. But that really doesn't bother me. I think it somehow makes it even more beautiful.

    1. Thank you! I am glad that you think so, I was a little worried that I was a bit too pale to pull off the colour. Yes, I think it unusual too. When my mother first pulled it out for a second I thought it was an old lipstick. I'm hoping to collect more beaded bags!

  5. You look lovely, and what wonderful items you've found!
I used to really like Love Hearts when I was younger, I used to enjoy reading all of the little messages but they've gotten pretty silly these last few years I find. And I totally hear you on low lighting making things difficult, it gets ever so dark in my room and the weather has just been far too chilly to take outfit photos outside. This photo of you came out lovely though so I don't think you have anything to worry about!

    1. Thank you very much!
Yes, the Love Hearts were quite nice, especially considering I haven't been big on candy for a while now. It is difficult isn't it when you don't have good lighting, and frustrating I find. But I'm very glad that you think that this photo came out alright!

  6. You look lovely in that outfit - such a 60s doll! I haven't had love hearts in years, I used to get them in party bags when I was a kid x

  8. Pretty Flamingo is one of my favourite Manfred Mann songs! (Fox on the run is my first choice) Your top is a very lovely shade! Merino wool is always good to pick up at the opp shop no matter what colour. I personally don't suit light coloured lipsticks, but it looks very nice and lady-like on you! shame about the low light. I'm not looking forward to the shorter days in winter!

And im so intrigued by that little gold sewing kit and pen. I always carry a little sewing kit around with me, but its no where near as pretty as that!

    1. Ah, "Fox on the Run" is a great song to listen to also! Thank you very much, I'm glad you think that it suits me. I always seem to have trouble finding lipstick colours that I feel suit me, so most of the time I don't wear any at all. But I think I found my new staple colour. Hahaha I'm over the heat - bring Autumn on I say!

What a neat idea to carry one around with you. Very handy. I should be doing that - there have been times when I've had to put hems up with safety pins when I'm out!

  11. Hello, dear Lucy!

You are indeed a pretty flamingo, my friend! In your various OOTD posts I have seen you wearing a variety of colors and they all work for you, including this lovely pink/grey combo.

It was nice to view your latest haul, particularly the ornate hand held mirror. I like what you wrote about it, observing that the broken glass makes it even more beautiful. I couldn't agree more. I have my own story in that regard. A few years ago, Mrs. Shady and I purchased a very large ceramic urn with distressed/antiqued finish. On the day we brought it home in the car, my macho brother-in-law was with us and asserted that we didn't need a dolly to transport the heavy urn into the house. He insisted on carrying it himself. Using a bear hug he lifted the urn out of the trunk, climbed the stairs, entered the house and began to cross through to the room where we wanted to display the urn. Before he could reach the designated spot he lost his grip and dropped the urn and it shattered into a dozen pieces! Over the next couple of weeks, Mrs. Shady set about gluing the pieces of the urn together like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Lo and behold, when she had completed the tedious task, we found ourselves owning an urn that was much more beautiful to look at than it would have been unbroken! It's proven to be a conversation starter whenever we have guests in the house and everyone laughs when we tell the story behind it.

The lesson is that some broken things can be repaired good as new. Those that cannot be repaired can be displayed in such a way that people only see the unbroken side. Still others are pleasing to the eye in spite of or because of their imperfection.

Lucy, I want to thank you for demonstrating your friendship and support by visiting my blog. In doing so, you let me know that my blog, my interests and my life as just as important to you as yours are to me. I am proud to have you as a friend and it's always a pleasure to come here and support your blog. Thank you very much for reciprocating.

I wish you a happy Sunday and a wonderful week ahead, dear friend!

    1. Hi Shady, thank you very much!

My goodness I can imagine your horror when it smashed just before he reached where it was about to go! I think it so marvelous that Mrs. Shady took her time to glue all the pieces back together to turn it into something even more beautiful. I can imagine it would make for a great conversation starter and good laugh. Yes, you are very right. Imperfections themselves are very often the things that bring out true beauty in something. Thank you for sharing such a nice story of yours.
I hope that this new week is just marvelous for you and Mrs. Shady, and I would love to see that beautiful urn!
